Roosevelt Lovett Memorial Scholarship
Are you attending college and looking for a scholarship? Win a $750 scholarship for fall 2015. This scholarship is open to students of African-American descent who are pursuing higher education.
Behind the Scholarship
I'm proud to share that Roosevelt "Teddy" Lovett was not only my grandfather, but also one of my earliest teachers. He taught me to do things the proper way. Lessons I remember include counting, ironing, and finishing what I started--at least I know how to count well.
One lesson I learned by simply observing Roosevelt is that we should help people. I watched him help almost everyone who asked. He didn't make anyone grovel or feel embarrassed. He didn't take long to make up his mind. He just helped. He went out of his way to help. That's what I'm doing by creating this scholarship fund in his name and that's what you will do by responding to my prompt and creating an excellent resource for others.
I appreciate LinkedIn because its a great source for job leads. Write 550-800 words for the prompt, "Six Ways College Students Can Optimize Their LinkedIn Profiles to Improve Job Prospects."
By applying for this scholarship, you agree to provide co-authorship rights to your submission. The winning response will be published on this site as a resource for other students to utilize. We may use your response to create a derivative work.
You can win the scholarship if your submission is chosen and you are 1) enrolled in at least 6 units at a community college, trade school, public or private university, or graduate school, 2) maintain a minimum 2.3 GPA if already enrolled in college, and 3) complete this application.
- We require proof of enrollment;
- We require government identification to verify that you are at least 18 years of age. This is required to make sure you have the legal ability to share publishing rights. We are not partial to an age group; and

P.S. It would be great if you +1'ed us on Google+!
P.P.S. Not +1'ing us on on Google+ will not affect your application.
The information you submit will not be sold or rented to any company. We may use it to determine your eligibility for, and contact you regarding, this scholarship. The only exception, as noted below, is that we plan on publishing the winning response and the name of the scholarship recipient. Information from applicants who are not awarded this scholarship will be purged as quickly as possible after a winner has been chosen.
A Winning Response
I plan on publishing the winning response on paymaster.co. My hope is that this response becomes a budgeting guideline for students. Although there are plenty of budgeting guides, I think having a guide written by a student provides value for other students. You are not expected to write as if you were a finance or budgeting expert. You're also not expected to write as if you're a professional journalist.
The winning response should meet three criteria:
- It should be organized;
- It should include practical, actionable advice or tips; and
- It should be easy to read and understand.
